I have been shopping for my next dream home for the past few months and even though I won't be moving out anytime soon (sorry Mom!) I have picked up some valuable tid-bits of info from my purchasing adventures. I thought I'd start a new segment for the blog called "Craigslist and Consignment" documenting my ups and downs when it comes to finding that perfect piece of home decor for the right price. It's easier said than done, trust me! You never know what you'll find in thrift and consignment stores and looking at pictures online of Craigslist furniture ads isn't always the most reliable thing! Buying second hand can save you more money than you realize and will always come with a great backstory you can share with your friends and family and you'll really impress them with your frugal flair! Lucky for me, I did have some luck during the first month of the year! Check out my best finds below, as well as some tips on how to spot a true second hand treasure and how to avoid wasting your money on dead end DIYs! Because we all have every good intention of fixing up our thrifted goodies but never actually get around to it (or find out that the plan we had in our hands is a little too out of reach when it comes to real life!)
Another great piece I found this month was this desk which I featured last week on the blog. It can be found on Target's website for about $150 but I snagged it for just $50! Which just shows that buying second hand can lead you to some bargain prices, and no assembly required! I also got the director's chair for next to nothing from a local thrift store! My last find for the month was this lamp that I believe originally was meant to hang from the ceiling but has since had its cords totally chopped! I am in the process of figuring out how to get it restrung so I can hang it from a hook on my ceiling that will plug into the wall, which I think will make it a much more versatile piece and allow me to not totally rip up my parents house! I got it for $45 at a consignment store and it is truly the treasure I am the most excited about! The big, globe light that came with it is so beautiful (I never thought at 22 I would describe a simple lightbulb as beautiful but here we are!) Can you tell I'm trying to achieve the ultimate modern boho vibe in my space? A few tips I have for buying off of Craigslist or from Consignment stores would be...

Loved the desk & lamp. You would really enjoy Flea Market Flip show on TV. 2 teams compete and it's incredible what they can do with some old or beat up stuff.
