How fun are blog series? They keep me focused on a certain topic, they're easy for me to manage with work and a social life outside of blogging and they always come with super fun hashtags! Thought I would get back to sharing some tips and tricks for interior decorating but instead of being broad with my advice, why don't we focus on certain themes and colors? That's where #theknowhows come in! A fun little series that I am hoping will be an easy way for y'all to feel more confident and inspired to get into more interior decorating on your own!
I am someone who responds really strongly to color. Whether it's in clothing, home decor, advertising, etc. I am always taking notes of colors and how I respond to them. I can see a color and immediately be lost in my own daydreamy world matching colors to it, imagining it featured in a room in a million different ways. So yeah- I am a huge fan of color trends, color forecasting, color sampling. I love it all! So I thought I would start off this new series talking about one of my favorite colors at the moment (sometimes I think of all time)- Emerald Green!
I love the lush feeling that really any shade of green can give off but especially emerald green. It makes fabrics and decor pieces feel so alive! I grew up in a home where my mom kept plants everywhere indoors and out, so that's probably why I've always gravitated more towards greens and blues as my favorite colors. Green is such a not neutral color though- so how do you incorporate it into a space without going to color crazy and creating a busy eyesore? The key is to simply not over do it! Green is a color that verges between demanding the spotlight but also being able to subtly blend into the background of a room- a very tricky combination! Decide what your strongest colors will be for a space (or, what color will you have the most of in the rom?) If it isn't emerald green then keep the pops of this color to smaller accent pieces such as table decor, wall art, or a statement furniture piece. Whether you go big or go small, check out my favorite inspiration pics below for examples on how to take this color and totally develop any space with it!
The Details
1. Of course going big would mean painting a whole wall or even a whole room! I love how this color is incorporated into a dining space in this picture. But this color would look great in any room! It makes a space feel very sophisticated and timeless, yet also relaxing and totally contemporary.
2. Throw pillows and blankets are a great way to add fun pops of emerald to a space. Target has some great options right now with their Tropical Lush line. Check it out & it doesn't hurt that this pillow comes in at a budget friendly $23.00! 3. I have always loved this picture from The Jungalow's Boho Kitchen! Seriously- I am obsessed! There is no need to be a plain jane when it comes to tiling. I say the wilder the better! This kitchen gives off fun, modern, and lively vibes! And what better color to use than the liveliest and lushest shade of green? 4. Agate had a huge moment last year and is still going strong into 2017. I am all behind this trend %100. I love natural elements in any space and these bookends are a creative way of keeping organized and also adding color to any shelf. 5. Architectural pieces such as this palm vase from TJMaxx is another creative way to not only add some natural flair to a space but also keep you organized and tidy. Fill it up with tropical flowers and greenery or keep it empty and use it as that key statement piece for your mantle. 6 & 7. These tropical prints from Target are perfect for the person who can't keep real plants alive to save their life (i.e. me!!) but still love the look of fresh greenery. 8. Matching your headboard to your wall color? Never a bad idea in my book when it's done right like this picture from House of Honey. 9. Dark emerald green cabinets..a kitchen design only for the most bold of decorators! Mix in a few warm metals and complimentary colors such as blush pink or crisp white and tan neutrals and you have a winning combination.
