I love coffee tables, I really do. I love how they can be the centerpiece of a living room and can vary in any style. I take a lot of pride in my own coffee table. It was built by my step-dad from old wooden doors from a house he renovated a few months ago. The house that he renovated had so much character in it and now I get to have a little bit of that same character in my home! From the distressed wood of the doors to the knobs and the metal hinges left on the sides, my coffee table is definitely the centerpiece of my living room. Your coffee table should display what style you’re currently into which will help it be a conversation starter among you and your guests. When it comes to decorating my coffee table I like having a big focal point and then a few other small details around it. For the next few weeks, or however long this beautiful Trader Joes bouquet lasts, the bright yellow and violet flowers will be my focal point. Walking into the living room, the flowers immediately grab your attention because of their bold colors. With the flowers contrasting against the distressed white of the table, I wanted to keep the rest of the décor super simple. I think that putting together a real or even fake bouquet of flowers will add color and vibrancy to your living room. For the rest of the décor, I opted for placing a votive I made last year along with a small scented candle and a ceramic succulent I picked up from Michaels on top of a large photography book I have had for years. Using books as bases for coffee table décor has always been my go to look. It’s so simple! I would suggest checking out a thrift store to pick up a large, vintage book to use as a base. You can find tons of decorative looking books at thrift stores for less than five dollars! I made the votive completely with Dollar Tree finds. All you need is a glass bowl candle or candy holder, as well as three tea lights (I got a pack of 16 for a dollar, what a steal) and a pack of small, dark rocks. All of these items can be found in the candle/home décor aisle at any Dollar Tree. Fill your bowl half way with the rocks and then place the tea lights on top of them; it’s that simple! I also have another votive like this on my porch. It is a really versatile piece that can go almost anywhere in your home. I used to have one of them on the counter in my bathroom too! My must have feature for any coffee table is a second shelf underneath. I got this from my mom because every coffee table she’s ever owned has had another shelf. I like to keep more decorative, large books on it as well as this white, glass lantern my mom picked up on clearance from Target. I like the chunky rope detail and how it doesn’t draw too much attention. It simply adds some height to the bottom shelf the same way the flowers do on the top of the table. Plus it’s a neutral color and will look good during any season. I love using my coffee table as a gathering place rather than simply a place to hold my miscellaneous magazines and every day clutter. I can’t wait to have friends over share a bottle of wine with and catch up, as long as they make sure to use coasters! I would love to see how you decorate your coffee table! Take a picture and post it on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #kspacecoffeetable so I can check out your spaces! Can’t wait to see what you can come up with. Thank you for reading and I’ll talk to you soon! -K
