It's Spring! Which is totally old news but I am just so excited to be shaking off the cold days of late Winter and get into one of my favorite times of the year! We all know about New Years resolutions but who else falls under the "Spring cleaning" spell around this time of year? Surely everyone! It's like an infectious bug, like the common cold. Everyone around you starts examining their spaces and themselves with a magnifying glass, just itching for some change. Some people opt for haircuts, some people opt for a new wardrobe or style, and some people simply clear out their desk and call it a day. I'm definitely one of those people that takes this time of year as a good opportunity to start getting rid of clothes and home decor items that I simply don't reach for or find any joy from anymore. And that's the key; don't surround yourself with things (clothes, decor pieces, or even people if you want to think more "big picture!") that don't bring you joy! With that in mind, I thought I would write up a few posts about how I am finding the joy during my massive Spring cleaning binge & share some organizing tips with y'all too! Whether that's new storage solutions, or how to truly surround yourself with items that bring you nothing but joy, I am hoping to inspire and motivate at least one of my lovely readers to start finding their own joy and pretty much live a better life than they were the day before! Because everyone could use some change and growth - it's what keeps life fun & spicy, friends! So what does it mean to look up? It means to start utilizing your walls as new storage solutions for small spaces! A lot of my readers are my age, either living at home (ain't no shame in our game!) or living in smaller spaces such as apartments or starter homes. I know the struggle of not only finding a spot for all your stuff but also keeping a nice, organized flow in your space. With the lack of square footage, sometimes it's hard to designate certain areas for certain tasks. And sometimes those spaces you are able to taper off start to overlap!
It's also smart to designate certain areas such as a work space as just that, a space to get work done. Don't get lazy like I sometimes do, and let it overlap as say, a dining space, if you can help it! You will be much more productive and be able to clearly see your tasks laid out in front of you if you use a large board to hold folders, notes, schedules, etc. I like the layout pictured above because it keeps the desk clear from clutter and also designates that area between the bookshelves as it's own space.
If you are living comfy and have plenty of room just too much stuff in general think about adding in some built-ins! It is so simple to add a shelf unit here or there, as long as you know what you're doing! I love the idea of adding shelves around a doorway creating a small tunnel way and also a great display unit for whatever! As always, with open shelf styling, keep it simple! Keep it minimal! But most importantly, keep it you! Tell a story with your decor, don't just use the shelves as bonus surface area for junk to pile up. Looking up doesn't just mean thinking of more creative storage solutions; it's also a way of staying positive! Something that I like to remind myself of every day. It's such a simple idea but sometimes I do get down about where I'm at and where I wanna be and how on Earth I am going to get there. I have so many plans tacked to every area of my brain about every aspect of my life, and it can get overwhelming. I feel like I am moving in slow motion. Taking it a day at a time and chipping away at big goals by completing a lot of small goals helps though! Cleaning out my closet and selling items turns into money saved for moving out, choosing to put my phone out of sight at work turns into more productive days and more projects getting done quicker, enjoying being at home and not overthinking the future leads to more memories made and a healthier mindset! It's all about perspective. If you are constantly looking down, you will never see what good is just ahead of you. If you are constantly looking back, you will never be prepared for what lies ahead. If you choose to look up and look forward and embrace every moment, you won't miss a thing. I hope you all enjoyed this post, I definitely let my mind wonder and loved laying so many thoughts down in a post to look back on. With cleaning your space or clearing your mind, it is always an ongoing process. Let's find more joy in ourselves and our spaces this Spring! Stay tuned for my next "Spring cleaning" related post - we'll be tackling clothes, how fun!
