I don't know if there was something in the water or there was just a home buying bug going around in late 2017, but it seemed like everyone I knew bought a home! It was so exciting seeing all of my friends' hard work pay off and seeing them buy their first homes. I feel so flattered whenever my friends want to get my advice on their homes and how to decorate them. So today I'm excited to show y'all what has been proudly deemed, Grand Central (#grandcentral on Instagram and Facebook), an adorable ranch style home located in Burlington, NC, this house is packed with personality and charm! Today I'll sit down with the homeowners, Lauren and Conley, and get a little insight into what it was like purchasing their first home together. Then, as their space gets updated here and there and transformed into their perfect space, I'll be updating y'all via more blog posts and fun sneak peeks on Instagram, so make sure to follow along! Below are the first few photos from the home prior to Lauren and Conley purchasing it. Since November, this home has seen a lot of changes as far as home decor! But we'll save that for next time! You can tell it has a lot of great open space and tons of potential for adding their own interior style into the mix! How did it feel buying your first house? "The whole process was surprisingly easy and exciting. I suppose that's what happens when you have close friends working as your realtors, but really - it was a surreal feeling for Conley and I. We finally felt like adults who had done something right with our time and money. And it feels good to invest in such a big part of our lives...not to mention all the new furniture we knew we would need!" What is your personal style when it comes to home décor? "I am absolutely a Pinterest, Instagram and magazine addict when it comes to home décor. I pull inspiration from so many sources it seems hard to pinpoint a specific style I'm aiming to achieve in our new home. However, most of the spaces I decorate end up being somewhat transitional - a mix of traditional and mid-century modern pieces. I love neutral colors, muted blues and greens, lots of gold and wicker textures. I do find it funny that I'm attracted to a lot of modern designers, yet somehow my space always comes back to my coastal roots. There's something beachy in almost every room now! Even the champagne colored frame and monotone beachscape artwork I bought to frame another piece of art I owned, ended up staying exactly as I bought it, beach scene and all right above my couch. Hopefully, when I get our home and all it's décor just the way I want it, it will be "casually eclectic" with a mix of everything old and new...just not rustic, please don't let it turn out too rustic!" What's your favorite space in your house? "I'd have to say the dining area. It's where all of the action happens in our since it's the perfect connecting space from our kitchen to our formal living room. It's the space I've tinkered with the most (I've only tried out 4 different area rugs...) and somehow managed to get it picture perfect. Since moving in we've added a farmhouse table, white wishbone chairs and a neutral toned herati rug that all really work well together. I'm definitely planning on updating the chandelier over the table - we currently have an orb shaped light that looks like hot glue drizzle - to a modern, matte gold chandelier with glass lamp shades. I'm also looking for more pieces to add to a gallery wall in the dining area and an upholstered bench for underneath the wall to accommodate guests." What improvements are you hoping to make to your new home? "Obviously the hideous hot glue light fixture I mentioned before! But really, this is the hardest part of owning your own home. There is SO much you want to update and add to. My love for area rugs, plants and throw pillows has gotten out of control, if you ask my husband. The project I've wanted to complete since we bought the house was to change the backsplash in the kitchen. Goodbye black and white mosaic, hello textured subway tile! I'm waiting on a wicker chair to fill an empty corner of our living room so I can add more décor, like those throw pillows and greenery I've been eyeing at Homegoods. I also really want to find a vintage wine poster to frame for that space too. Our basement really needs a lot of love too! We just received a hand-me-down sectional from a family member that works great in the space. After a good cleaning and some fresh pillows, it should look much better! We also have a fantastic fireplace and hearth next to large built-ins that I'm desperately trying to decide how to decorate. I'm also considering an arched floor lamp and big, potted palm for behind the sectional. The office will probably be a work in progress for some time, since it's that room that gets the least amount of use. There's a great Kate Spade black and white patterned rug in there currently, but I need some DIY help (from k.space of course!) to paint our desk white and find a great office chair that works well with our rug. The master bedroom is more space than we need but we actually want to keep it minimalistic for now - it's so relaxing! I love our grey upholstered bed, but definitely plan on updating it with new euro shams and better quality white bedding. Thinking of some linen accents? There really needs to be some art in there too...so many ideas, so little time!" Since moving in, what has been your favorite memory made in your new home? "Hands down, it has to be the New Years Eve party we hosted with our crew of best friends. Think: way too much food and champagne, a little beer pong for nostalgia, and some pretty sentimental midnight toasts to each other in our basement. Hoping for many more memories like these in our home!" I hope you all enjoyed this post and are just excited as I am to see this space transform into Lauren and Conley's dream home over the course of this year! Make sure you follow along on Instagram for many more #GrandCentral updates! And a big thank you to the happy couple for giving us such a well thought out interview!
