Well it's only taken me five hundred years but I finally sorted through my pictures from my time visiting Savannah, GA! Along with Charleston, Savannah is one of those towns just chalk full of personality, southern charm and historic wonders. I had visited Savannah prior to my visit this past Summer but only really saw the inside of museums and art galleries, which was just as unique a trip but I missed out on a lot of the architectural and interior design elements that I was fortunate enough to see this time around. My mom, older cousin, sister and I stayed in a gorgeous hotel known as The Marshall Inn. Although it is well known in Savannah as one of the most haunted hotels in the South, we only had one paranormal experience involving a crying baby on the floor above our room but it turned out there wasn't any sort of child staying above us at the time! The Marshall House was built in 1851 and served as one of the top hotels for Savannah until later becoming a hospital for yellow fever patients in 1854 and 1876. Once the epidemics had passed, it resumed its role as a hotel in 1999 after extensive restorations. The halls of the hotel are warped from age and give off those essential "haunted hotel" vibes. Most of the hotel has remained true to its original construction, which makes this one of the most charming and unique places to stay for anyone visiting Savannah! Down any street in Savannah there are sights to see. One of my favorites was the The Pink House restaurant and pub. Check out that millennial pink! I was totally charmed by it's design and the abundance of greenery standing out against the pink. It made for quite the backdrop for photos! Walking the river was also a sight to see! I loved the look of the aged brick and truly nautical accents. Savannah is definitely a city that has maintained a lot of its historical roots when it comes to the architecture. It has an almost seamless blend of modern shops and restaurants within the original, historic buildings. I also very casually found heaven on Earth in the form of a store called 24e. It is located right in the heart of Savannah and it is every interior decorators dream come true! The mix of metals, patterns, textiles, vintage and modern eclectic items...oh my word I could go on and on! One of my favorite features was the desk made out of old airplane parts, what a cool way to up-cycle!
Another one of my favorite stores in Savannah is a little French style market down the road from our hotel. I had been there before when I took my first trip to Savannah a few years ago but trust me, this is a place that only gets better and better with each visit! They are constantly out-doing themselves with their displays and their products sold. If I had had the money, I would have bought out half of their stock! We also had the chance to visit Tybee Island, an adorable beach town set right on the coast of Georgia. We got to see the house that the family who worked the lighthouse lived in back in the 1700s. It is unreal how simple yet spacious their home was. It always amazes me how families back then got by with such few amenities. It really can put a lot in perspective when thinking of how our homes and tastes have changed now! The Savannah College of Art and Design has a wonderful museum full of students' work and it is something that I would recommend anyone visiting Savannah make the time to see! Another example of a spot in Savannah that only gets better with each visit, their colorful and powerful pieces fed my creative soul and totally recharged my batteries! I always feel so creatively motivated after seeing such amazing work. I hope you enjoyed this quick look at my trip to Savannah this past Summer! Now that the weather is changing and it's starting to cool down I am looking forward to new adventures to share with you all in the future!
