This past month has been a whirlwind. I travelled to Charleston, South Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, and recently got back from a trip up North to New Hampshire to spend a lot of much needed time with family. I am still coming off of my vacation/living out of a suitcase daze but I already find myself wishing to repeat the last month on a loop! I saw so many inspiring things down South and on top of that, got to recharge with some major fun and relaxation up North! I am so happy to have a platform with k.space that allows me to share all of the things going on creatively in my brain with new and interesting people! So without further ado, I figured we could get things started with a look at my time exploring Charleston, SC and all the wonderfully charming and historic quirks that make this city such a sight to see! The architecture in Charleston is some of the most eye catching design I have ever seen. Living in Wilmington, NC for four years during school, I got to experience some of the same charm in the downtown river area. But nothing compares to seeing such beautiful detail and color on every restaurant and store on every street. It didn't matter what part of town you were in, there was history everywhere. One of my favorite things was obviously the vibrantly painted homes! You just don't see that kind of charm everywhere in the U.S. I also really loved the large patios and luscious greenery. You all know I am a sucker for some lively foliage. Check out this freaking magazine worthy front yard I spotted below! I mean, come on!! *Insert all the heart eye emojis* When in such a historically rich city, you cant help but think of how different things were back then when it comes to interior design and decor. There was such a heightened attention to detail and a need to be unique. Yes, the same basic design of the houses can be seen when walking down the streets, but there is nothing cookie cutter about these homes. Homes took longer to build and because of the careful attention to detail, have lasted for hundreds of years. The famous "Rainbow Row" was another stunning site to see in Charleston! I can't believe people actually get to live in some of the most well known homes from SC! Why couldn't have I lucked out like that? Every color and exterior design option flowed perfectly from one home to the next. It made these homes seem perfectly in sync but also able to stand on their own uniqueness. The main styles of Charleston architecture include Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italiante, Queen Anne, Art Deco and the Charleston Single House. My favorite was the Single House style because it was just so unique! I loved the large two story side porches featured most commonly with these homes. Another unique feature was this awesome tiling in front of one of the Inns we stumbled across! I have never seen a tile sidewalk as cute as this one, something I think people could only get away with in a city like Charleston. One of my favorite exterior features of Charleston homes is the iron detailing. Whether it was on fences, porches or windows, this bold detail was on almost every home in the city! It is definitely a unique style that can't be easily replicated just anywhere. To see how well the metal had lasted through the years on these homes was mind blowing and it made me appreciate the craftsmanship even more. Overall, I feel truly blessed to be able to explore such a charming and dreamy city such as Charleston. I can't wait to go back sooner than later. I hope you enjoyed hearing a few of my thoughts on the style and design of this city and enjoy looking at the rest of my favorite little snaps from this trip. Let me know if it gets your travel itch going! I know three weeks out and I am already reminiscing hardcore!
