A few weeks ago I was at a local estate sale in my neighborhood and I happened to come across two beautiful metal baskets. Well, they weren't all that beautiful at the time. They were covered in rust and had chipped paint, but I could see some major potential in them. I made my purchase and headed on my way to Lowes to get the supplies I needed to turn these baskets into the perfect decor pieces I knew they could be. In this post, I'll show you how I repurposed these baskets and how I can envision them being used in a home! Hope you enjoy! Supplies:Although I loved the faded green color of these baskets, it gave off more of a vintage and rustic vibe for the pieces. I wanted them to have more of a polished, classic look that would work in any room of a house. I decided on the color satin from the brand Valspar; it's a beautiful and simple light grey color. I used Valspar spray paint all throughout college to paint some of my artwork and knew it would be perfect for this project. It's long lasting, includes primer and gives a clean, even coat of rich color to any surface. Get to work!:I spread out a large pieces of cloth in my backyard to paint on and got straight to work on the baskets! I chose to use spray paint instead of using a brush to apply the paint because it's so quick and I knew that it would get every tiny detail covered better than I could by hand. It didn't take long for the baskets to dry (another reason I love using Valspar!) but just to make sure the paint had dried all the way through, I let them dry overnight in my garage. Decor ideas:These baskets are so simple and perfect to use as storage bins for a variety of things around the house. For example, they can store toys for your pet, bathroom supplies or magazines and books. You can even use them as planters if you line them with some coconut liner and grass. If you don't quite have a green thumb then they would look beautiful filled with some fake flowers (no dirt required!) and used as decor on dining tables and kitchen islands. I hope you enjoyed seeing how I repurposed these baskets and I've inspired you to get started on your own DIY projects! There will be plenty more to come on the blog since these baskets weren't the only treasures I have found at sales last month. I can't wait to show you more!
