Moving sucks! No one enjoys it, it's a time consuming process, and it can be totally overwhelming. I don't even like packing a bag for weekends away from home honestly - so the thought of moving everything I own at any time is super unappealing! But I know that while me and my mountains of stuff are staying put in my parent's basement for a while longer, that isn't the case for everyone! So for everyone making moves, big or small, check out some tips below to help make it just a little easier on you! Filter Why You PackWhile packing up your belongings can seem like a lot to process at once, it does have a big benefit! It gives you a chance to have a "no excuses" mindset when it comes to analyzing what stuff you need and what stuff you don't. While you're packing things like your clothes, take a look at each piece and ask yourself if you'll really wear it or not once you unpack in your new place. There's no need to put in the time and energy packing away things that you don't like anymore! When it comes to home decor, ask yourself if you have the room for each piece or if it fits the style you are looking for for your new space! Don't be afraid to be honest with yourself and take a chance to switch things up. Anything that isn't coming with you can get donated or given away to someone who will truly enjoy it. Pack A Starter KitWhile you are packing your belongings away, set a few items aside for a few starter boxes! A starter box will help you get settled into your new place by having items such as fresh linens, towels, paper products, toiletries, a changes of clothes and pet food easily accessible. Moving can be stressful and having everything set aside that you'll need from day one, hour one ready to go can make it an easier transition. Don't Wait Until Moving DayLeading up to a move, it's better to get as much done as you can before your moving day so that way it goes as smooth as possible for everyone involved! You can never start too soon once you know your moving date in my book. Start by packing up (and filtering through!) things such as home decor, out of season clothes and accessories, extra dishes and linens, etc. Basically all the things that you can go without needing for a few weeks! When you're a couple of weeks out from your date, start to take things off the wall and making the necessary repairs to your home for the new owners. This can be spread out over a couple of weekends so it doesn't seem like such an overwhelming task! Once you are a few days out from your move, I suggest using all paper products and only have your basic necessities unpacked. The day before your move, pack these last few items (linens, towels, few changes of clothes, toiletries, etc.) into your starter boxes! I hope that these tips can help you during your next move! When you start to feel stressed or overwhelmed just think, change is good, it'll be over before you know it, and it's a great opportunity to start again in a fresh space! Good luck!
