I don't know about you all but I am ready for Spring! I am craving warm sunny days, ditching my turtleneck sweaters for short sleeves and spending late afternoons relaxing comfortably on my porch. For many, the arrival of Spring is a similar feeling to the start of a new year. Everyone wants to have a fresh start and really change things up. That can mean a new wardrobe, a new haircut or new workout routines. For me, it means giving my house a brand new look. When each room in your house stays the same for months on end, it's easy to grow tired of seeing the same old thing. By giving each room a fresh update for the Spring, you are refreshing your home as well as yourself. You should live in an environment that makes you feel relaxed and content, not uncomfortable and bored. Since February is still a little early to bust out the pastel palettes and go to town on some DIY hand dyed Easter eggs, I've put together a few ideas that can get your creative juices flowing and serve as inspiration to bigger projects we can tackle next month! Some of my favorite things to do for quick updates in my home are to start adding more greenery to my living spaces and updating throw pillows and blankets. These are easy and quick ways to help start the transition of your home from a cozy winter environment to one that is full of new life for the changing season. Adding plants to your home is a great way to freshen up any space. My favorite plants of the moment are succulents and cacti; they are easy to take care of and can be planted in a variety of ways. Succulents are simple plants that won't overwhelm a room which gives you a lot of options for displaying them. Succulents can be planted together in a large bowl to create a stunning focal point on a coffee table or can be displayed in individual pots on places such as bookcases, shelves or end tables. Seasonal flowers can also be displayed the same way to add color and floral scents to any room. I headed over to my local Lowe's to pick up these fresh succulents for under five dollars! I find that plants like these are budget friendly, low maintenance and long lasting which is why it makes me happy to pick a few new ones up when I have the chance to. They ended up looking perfect on my porch and scattered throughout my living room and kitchen. I also have an almost obscene amount of fake succulents that can help add more interest throughout my apartment in places that may not get as much light or aren't ideal for real plants to be such as bathrooms or laundry spaces. I also saw that peonies and lilacs were in season so I stopped by my local Trader Joe's to put together a small bouquet featuring them to put on my kitchen island. I highly suggest going to Trader Joe's for stemmed flowers. They have a wide selection of flowers and greenery that you can mix and match to create arrangements unique to your style and home! Another great way to rejuvenate your home is to update your throw pillows and blankets. I am obsessed with throw pillows, I have no problem admitting this! I constantly switch pillows between my bedroom and my living room. It's the most affordable way to change how each room looks and the colors are fairly versatile which allows me to mix and match them as much as I like. If you are in the market to purchase new pillows I would suggest sticking with neutral colors such as tan, grey and white as well as pale colors. Neutral tones will allow you to achieve the epitome of a fresh, Spring look and will work later on during the year when Fall eventually rolls back into town. It's important to keep in mind that when buying new pieces always choose ones that will not only work for right now, but also later on; pick pieces you can invest in and get a lot of use out of. Throw blankets work the same way as pillows. They can add texture and much needed pops of color to a room. They're also just handy to have around! No matter how warm it starts getting outside, nothing feels better than napping on the couch with a soft blanket on top of you. Id choose a few neutral blankets with textures that make sense for warm weather. Some neutral colors I would suggest include navy, grey, white and tan. I would avoid heavy wool and winter plaids and instead opt for more lighter cotton fabrics. With just a few simple additions to your home plus a few rearrangements to your furniture decor, you can help breathe new life into your home for the start of Spring! I can't wait to show you more updates to my own apartment as well as see what kind of changes you start making to your homes after what feels like the longest Winter ever. Thanks for reading and I'll talk to you soon! -K
